Fashion Technology is a new branch in the education system of Tripura. It was started in the year 2004 under WEST BENGAL STATE
COUNCIL OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION, Kolkata, with an intake capacity of 30 students per year in first year of the course.
In 2007 when the Institute got affiliation from the TRIPURA UNIVERSITY, the intake capacity has been reduced and at present
the intake capacity stands at 20 students per year in the first year.
This course aims at imparting the method of creating new designs and fashion stylizations. The different design motives and the
costume of the tribes of Tripura as well as the tribes of different North-Eastern states can be explored to the world market
through different fashion elements and fashion events. Fashion Technology department of Women's Polytechnic is actively networked
with premiere Institutions like NIFT, Kolkata.
This course is largely intended to cater education for self-employment and build entrepreneurs. Pass-outs also have opportunities
for pursuing higher study in Textile Technlology, Apparel Technology, Fashion Designing, Fashion Technololgy, etc.
They may also undergo advanced training in Nationnal Institute of Fasion Design. Major thrust areas of the course are:
(i) understanding fabric and germents design and manufacturing
(ii) Weaving and Printing
(iii) Pattern Making etc.
The students during the course get practical training in Weaver's Service Center,under Ministry of Textiles,
Government of India and other organizations so as to develop technical skills and thus make this branch of Technology a unique of its own.
